We’re committed to making the Migrant Info Hub accessible, inclusive and user-friendly for everyone.

To maximise accessibility, we try to produce material in multiple languages and in audio or video as well as text format. We rely on a great team of volunteers and staff to assist with this. Thank you to them!

This website (Migrant Info Hub) is run by Migration Yorkshire. We set it up at very short notice to meet immediate information needs for migrants and services in relation to the Covid 19 pandemic when lockdown started in the UK in March 2020. Our current focus is on getting relevant information / messages published as quickly as possible. We’re working to increase the Hub’s accessibility where we can.

How accessible is this website?

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to: zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen.

We’ve made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible: for example, you cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Migration Yorkshire is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is not compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard. The non-compliances and exemptions are listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

We’re working to address the following accessibility issues by the end of December 2020:

  • Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

  • Some headings and subheadings are not marked up correctly using H tags. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (headings to be marked such that they can be programmatically identified).

  • The purpose of some links is not clear from the link text alone. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.4 Link purpose (in context).

  • There’s no way to skip the repeated content in the page header (for example, a ‘skip to main content’ option).

  • Some visitors will not be able to navigate the Hub using the main menu: we will provide a site map.

  • Where we host our own documents, we aim to fix any accessibility issues, or duplicate the documents with accessible HTML pages.

At present, we’re not able to list all instances of non-compliance with the accessibility regulations, as we haven’t yet done a full audit – see the next section for more information on how we plan to address this.

Disproportionate burden

We believe that, at present, carrying out a full accessibility audit and fixing non-compliances thus identified would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment of this when we know whether we will be retaining and/or developing this website after the Covid 19 lockdown in the UK has significantly eased.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Documents

When we link to PDF or Word documents, mostly these are links to external websites and we can’t guarantee the accessibility of the documents.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We review the website to assess how we can improve accessibility in the short term. We’re developing a website accessibility plan to help us progress this work.

We’re applying for funding to develop the Hub, planned developments will include making it more accessible.
